Most of the firm’s work consists of business disputes, often involving contracts, equipment leases (on behalf of lessors), real estate or other valuable property, and shareholder issues, including shareholder divorces and minority shareholder relief. The firm has a substantial practice in cases involving business torts, especially defamation and related doctrines. Our attorneys have significant experience in securities and antitrust litigation. We have been involved in a number of cases involving employment law, including non-compete and related issues in several industries. We also have substantial experience defending businesses in class action litigation. Our lawyers have represented insurance companies in coverage disputes throughout the country. Each case differs from the next, and our attorneys enjoy taking on the challenge of tackling a wide variety of cases. 

 

The firm has a base of clients that regularly seek its counsel on litigation matters.   The firm also receives much work via referrals from other attorneys, often business lawyers who do not handle litigation or other trial lawyers who have conflicts of interest.

 

Sometimes public or corporate clients appreciate or seek diversity when engaging outside counsel. Our firm currently has six partners, four of whom are women. Since January 1, 2008, more than 60% of the equity shares of Kelly & Berens are owned by women.
